As much as I love focusing on the inner world and mental health I am a strong believer of the mind and body connection. If your body is treated well, your mind will benefit from it. The Power of Exercise – Let’s Move
Exercise, from my own experience, is the best antidepressant. As one of my favorite fitness and lifestyle gurus, Chalene Johnson says Workout only when you want to feel good. And honestly, who doesn’t want to feel good. Anyone? No? Didn’t think so.
How to start moving?
Baby steps. If taking a walk is intimidating you can start by introducing more ‘in-home’ physical activity. Vacuum more, dance around the house. A wonderful thing nowadays is that everything is available online. You can find tons of youtube videos with exercises. Start slowly, commit to fifteen minutes a day. Just start moving.
Increase after a certain time. Instead of walking 15 minutes, increase to 20 or half an hour. Join numerous online support groups. Find a workout buddy.
You can also try one of the Beachbody programs. Since Beachbody is now only available in the USA it is hard to be able to follow for those of us outside who used to use the international version. I cannot praise their programs enough. You can check how I adapted the program to myself here and remember to keep moving!
